Frequently Asked Questions

Donating Equipment

I have equipment I’d like to donate. What do you accept?
Please review this list when putting together your donation: http://peacepassers.org/donate-soccer-gear-equipment

What if I only have a small donation?
If you are inspired to give back to the game we encourage you to do so. We will accept one ball or 100 soccer balls. Same goes for boots. Many small donations will add up to make a big impact. It is always a good idea to ask friends, family, teammates if they have any new or used soccer equipment they’d like to donate to your cause. Box it up and ship it out to Peace Passers.

Does Peace Passers pay for shipping my donation of gear?
We operate almost completely on volunteer participation and unfortunately do not have the funds to pay for your items to be sent to our collection sites. Depending on the size of your donation most people are more than happy to pay for the shipping. Many youth clubs are willing to send extra items to us as a philanthropic way to support soccer worldwide. Ask the club board to support your idea. Those who are not involved with a formal team can collect $ donations from friends & family or ask a local business to sponsor the shipment if it’s a large box. Contact Candace & peacepasserinfo@gmail.com to find out the best shipping location.

What does it mean that you prefer to collect “team sets” of jerseys?
We prefer that donors gather 10 or more jerseys of the same color or style. Peace Passers collaborates with many groups who are working on the development of teams in under resourced communities. Providing team “sets” better facilitates the organization of the game and encourages youth and adults to function as a team, rather than individuals. We do accept single Goalie jerseys of any color.

Is my equipment donation tax deductible?
Upon receiving your equipment donation we will email you a receipt of donation by Peace Passers for your records. This link below is useful for donors. (It walks you through what can be written off, and also has links to Salvation Army and Goodwill, which provides valuation guides to help determine the market value of clothing)  http://www.moneybluebook.com/how-to-value-your-clothing-donations-and-get-a-tax-deduction/
Note that is it up to the donor to determine the “value” of your donated goods. Our organization will provide you the receipt stating that you donated x amount of gear, and then it is up to the person or group to determine the amount they wish to deduct. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p526.pdf

Who is donating equipment?
Donations to Peace Passers come in from people living all across the United States. Current players of all levels, former players, coaches, former coaches, soccer moms & dads (who have kid’s growing out of their boots!), youth clubs, High Schools, Colleges & Universities, recreation centers, YMCA’s, summer soccer camps, and community donation drives organized by volunteers. Check out the list of those who have donated: http://peacepassers.org/participants

I would like to do a community service project for the Peace Passers. What do I need to do?
We are excited to have inspired many young soccer players to give back to the game in a very special way. Volunteers have held Peace Passers birthday parties having their friends bring soccer balls for gifts, Mitzvah projects, and also students who are required to do a service project for school assignments. Peace Passers is a great platform to design your own FUN community service project! If you are interested in organizing a collection drive please contact Candace @ peacepassersinfo@gmail.com and she will send you our guidelines.

Besides donating equipment how can I help support the Peace Passers?
A few ideas are listed here for you: http://peacepassers.org/ways-to-be-involved
We encourage any kind of donations you are able to make to our organization. Thank you for considering us as your choice charity.

Distributing Equipment

Does Peace Passers ship equipment around the world?
Most often we are not shipping gear across borders. The distribution of Peace Passers soccer equipment to global communities is accomplished via collaborations with other mission teams, sports ministries, and non-profits serving people around the world. Volunteers actually hand carry luggage (as extra checked bags on their flights), filled with soccer equipment. If you are traveling with a mission team or have room for extra bags we encourage you to take soccer equipment with you. Contact peacepassersinfo@gmail.com to inquire about equipment requests.

What kinds of groups help distribute gear?
Check out the variety of amazing collaborations here: http://peacepassers.org/collaborations-and-distributions

I am living abroad (IE: Peace Corp, extended mission travel, etc) and recognize that this particular community could use soccer gear. Can Peace Passers send me equipment?
Some requests for gear come in through people living outside of the U.S. In this type of situation it is up to the person or group requesting to coordinate shipping logistics (I.E.: cost & method). We can help by providing the gear but it is up to you to raise funds for the shipping and to ensure there is a legit contact to receive the shipment. Another option would be if a family member or friends are coming to visit you, ask them to bring an extra bag of luggage filled with soccer gear. There have also been several success stories of companies or groups of people who have raised money to sponsor shipments. For churches or non-profits sending crates to communities you are working with, feel free to contact us if you’d like to include soccer equipment.

Is there a fee for receiving equipment?
We have implemented a $25.00 donation for each batch of equipment. Sometimes groups will donate more, which of course we appreciate. You can trust that the $25.00 donation is very minimal compared to the quantity & quality of gear you’ll receive from the Peace Passers.

If I volunteer to take equipment are there any requirements from Peace Passers?
Peace Passers was started to help re-distribute surplus equipment to communities around the world who would otherwise not have access to such resources. We encourage you to talk to others about why you are taking soccer equipment, the scores of positive impact from sports & how the game of soccer is a universal way to connect with others. Once you’ve arrived at your destination we do not promote “handing out” of equipment as it sets a precedent for Americans showing up in communities and giving away things. The ideal situation is if you can facilitate distribution through a community leader (respected soccer coach, pastor, teacher, etc) so that the equipment is handled properly. Another idea is to organize a soccer clinic for the kids using Peace Passers gear. Remember simple is key & the kids will thoroughly enjoy any kind of instruction.

How can we get our story on the Peace Passers website?
We love to highlight the successes of gear donations and distributions. If the environment is fitting for taking pictures we suggest you do so. Pictures & video help us to tell the story of our work. For people donating equipment it’s a wonderful for them to “see” where the equipment ends up. It brings the Peace Passers wheel of giving full-circle. If you would like to write a brief highlight or talk to a Peace Passers member about your experience we are all ears.

Wait a second, I read all of this and you still didn’t answer my question!
No worries, contact  peacepassersinfo@gmail.com with any other questions. We look forward to hearing from you!
