Collaboration Makes the World Go Round’

kenya soccer donations

Peace Passers accomplishes distributions of soccer equipment by linking up equipment donors to groups such as mission teams, sports ministries and other non-profits who can help put soccer gear back into play. A wonderful example of this kind of collaborative partnership exists with Partners for Care www.partnersforcare.org, a small nonprofit in Atlanta focused on community health initiatives in Kenya. Since August of 2011 Peace Passers has helped to provide soccer equipment to support PFC’s soccer projects.

In addition to medical clinics and HIV/AIDS prevention programs, Partners for Care strives to reach the youth of Kenya through sport ministry. Sharon Dicks, Director of Development at Partners for Care explains, “Most of the kids live in slums or on the street and don’t have the financial means to attend school. They end up walking the streets idly passing the time with nothing to do, often gravitating to drugs, theft, and alcohol. Soccer represents a way out of the destructive lifestyle and an opportunity to be a part of a team where they feel a sense of belonging and where they learn valuable life
skills, not just how to play the game of soccer!”

Please view the attached newsletter composed by Partners for Care highlighting many of the individuals and groups who contacted Peace Passers & have generously donated soccer equipment to the youth soccer teams in Kenya.

The 2010 Peace Seminar included 19 global representatives from YMCAs in the Middle East, Europe, North America, Latin America and Africa. The participants were selected by their YMCA national movements to take part in the Seminar in Madrid, Spain May 3rd -10th. We are proud to support Candace Cooper (PeacePasser’s Director) as she was selected to represent the YMCA of the USA. “This was an extremely unique opportunity to engage with Peace leaders from across the world and learn about their diverse cultural & global realities” explained Candace.

The weeklong seminar included workshops & discussions surrounding the content of community development, globalization, immigration, intercultural perceptions, youth issues, poverty, & the education for peace. Guided by the leadership of Juan Simoes (General Secretary, YMCA España) the group engaged in workshops on connectedness and programming to promote & foster peace in youth. We’d like to thank Juan for giving Candace the opportunity to speak about the work of PeacePassers to the international group as an avenue to connect people locally and globally through the game of soccer. Thanks goes out to our new fans from Lebanon, Palestine, Russia, Italy, Argentina, Egypt, Spain, Senegal, Bosnia, Romania, Macedonia, Spain, and USA for spreading the good word of PeacePassers!

And of course, we can’t forget to congratulate Spain the 2010 World Cup Champions! ¡Viva España!

About Futsal
Futsal is an indoor version of association football (soccer). The name "Futsal" simply combines the Spanish words for "Hall" – Sala, and "Football" – Futbol into Futsal. It is the format of small sided football that is recognised and supported by FIFA, UEFA and recently the FA, with world championships taking place for club and national teams. Futsal is played with a smaller regulation ball with 30% less bounce than normal. To learn more about Futsal UK check out their website at www.futsaluk.net
